Back when Starbucks wrote your name on the cups with a Sharpie, one of the baristas forgot my name and just penned āTALKERā on it.
Itās what I did.
I worked in churches and nonprofits for about a decade, so I began adulthood talking about some of the stuff that matters the most.
I began by teaching a group of 20 and 30-sometings in a warehouse in downtown Birmingham every Sunday night...
A business opportunity led me out of the nonprofit world. And, it came at just the right time.
My family was navigating through a tough season, so working from home not only seemed right, it provided me with the capacity to focus on the people that matter the most every day of the weekā even throughout the day.
While the oldest kids were at school (and the youngest napped), I began writing books and hosting eventsā¦ in the business world.
Whereas I "got my reps" talking every week in the church / nonprofit world, I discovered I could speak on any stage.
I partnered with two friends to launch a menās event (Advance) as an offshoot of the home-based business venture. What began as a āone and doneā turned into a run of 10 semi-annual events, an online group of over 5,000 men, and a string of books + courses + quarterly planners.
Through the Advance movement, men not only learned to set goals in multiple areas of life, they also became better husbands, more patient fathers, diligent workersā¦ and hit significant goals in other areas of life.
I discovered that speaking isn't just about providing people with "good" information, it's about taking them on a journey that outlives the stage and moves them towards life transformation.
Today, I speak about some of the topics that interest me the mostā the things that I feel matter the most.
I want to help people encounter grace, overcome the hurts of the past (find freedom), walk in their purpose (discover why theyāre here) and do with the less stress.
If they lead a team, I want to empower them to do the same for the people they lead.
And if they have a positive, faith-driven message to share, I want to help them platform it and make an even bigger impact.
